This Best Western Inn & Suites in Cooperstown has mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding cleanliness and responsiveness to customer issues. While some guests appreciate the location and amenities, a recurring theme of poor service, hygiene problems, and difficulties obtaining refunds has emerged, alongside issues with accessibility and outdated facilities. Recent reviews detail issues ranging from blood-stained bedding to food contamination.
**Blood-stained sheets and management that fights refunds** Avoid this place at all costs. This was hands down the worst hotel experience of my life and I'm still fighting with them months later. We had to switch rooms because the first one reeked. In the second room, I found BLOOD on the bedding while my legally blind grandson was playing on the bed. He had no idea what he was touching. I was horrified and immediately took photos. Housekeeping wanted to just swap the stained sheet and call it good - I had to demand they replace all the bedding. Here's what really gets me - management now claims their policy requires taking contaminated rooms "out of service" when blood is found. So why the hell did they let us stay in that room? The front desk offered a pathetic $100 on the spot, basically admitting how serious this was. They initially said their insurance would handle compensation, then completely backed out. I've sent letters to their CEO Larry Cuculic - ignored. Certified letters to the board - dismissed. The property manager actually told my credit card company that requesting a refund was "theft of service." Are you kidding me? We had to throw away clothes when we got home because we were terrified of bed bugs and other contamination. They've refused to compensate us for anything. The worst part? They admitted in writing they owed me a full refund, then when I wouldn't accept their ridiculous conditions, they fought my credit card dispute anyway. It's been over 9 weeks of this garbage. The beds are also ridiculously high - completely inaccessible for elderly or disabled guests. Zero consideration for anyone with mobility issues. Apparently this is standard throughout Best Western properties - so beware. Only after I posted a public review did they suddenly respond, claiming blood on bedding is 'unacceptable' and that their procedures require taking contaminated rooms out of service. Really? Then why did they let us stay in that blood-contaminated room? And if it's truly so 'unacceptable,' why are they still refusing to refund us? If you really believe your own words about this being unacceptable, then prove it - refund our room cost and compensate us for the clothing we had to discard. Our experience proves their claims to be completely untrue. This place is a health hazard run by people who will fight you tooth and nail rather than take responsibility for their failures. You've been warned. "UPDATE: After my review was posted and viewed by hundreds of people, I attempted to call the hotel twice to ask what safety improvements they had made to prevent this from happening to other children. Instead of returning my calls, they BLOCKED MY PHONE NUMBER. My TripAdvisor review was viewed 204 times in just a few weeks, warning families about this incident. The hotel publicly calls this 'unacceptable' but blocks communication with affected families."
In the summer months we have our camper at Cooperstown Beaver Valley Campground. After camping season ends we stay at the Best Western. We have been staying here off and on for years. While everything is not perfect every time. It is consistently acceptable. The staff is top notch and friendly. The manager Scott, is kind, and took appropriate action once when we did have a problem with our room. The breakfast offered is consistently good with several food options. We will continue to return here.
We stayed for five days and I cannot say enough great things about our stay. The staff was thorough and accommodating. We stayed in the separate building which we jokingly called our chalet. We were out and about and really only spent the evenings in our room, but it was quiet, clean, and we had a nice time at the pool and the hot tub when we could. We stayed during the off season so that might make a difference. Check in was seamless and so was check out. There are electric charging stations for those that have electric cars. There are ramps and I liked that there was an adaptive aquatic chair to help someone who has a wheelchair gain access to the pool. The breakfast was great. The value can’t be beat either. It’s within close driving distance to downtown Cooperstown and nearby areas.
We were in the front building. It must have been repainted recently because the hallways all smelled very strong of paint. Its great that they are keeping up with maintenance, but a warning would have been nice. The breakfast was excellent. Did not get to use the gym or pool but did take a peak at them and both looked nice and well maintained.
We were here for a super short stay… got in at 11pm and left by 9:30 am, but it was clean and we got a good nights sleep. Friendly night staff when we arrived. Fridge in the room is always helpful. Random thing was the amazing water pressure in the shower.
I have to echo what others have said in their reviews. We were pretty disappointed by our stay here. We reserved a junior suite to have enough room for six of us. We were given what appeared to be a handicapped accessible room in the second building. There were food crumbs/chunks in the hallway, looking like the place hadn't been vacuumed. Our door to our room was broken and had to be slammed shut to close. The "junior suite" was just a regular room with a really worn, very uncomfortable sofa bed separated from the other beds by a rickety half-wall. The shower had no lip on the bottom at all and the shower curtain didn't reach the floor so the whole bathroom was sopping wet. Our room faced the McDonalds drive-thru. The pool and workout room were only open from 8:30am-9pm. For the price we paid, I would at least expect a clean and functioning space. I definitely wouldn't stay here again. Cooperstown is a beautiful and quaint place and this hotel offered none of that charm or even basic functionality.
This room was a dump. The carpets were covered in stains. The shower floods the bathroom floor. The gym was broken down and essentially no gym. The one treadmill said out of order. Kids were running all over the hallways, up and down the stairs throughout the nite. At 349.00 a night we were price gouged. Oh yea, the coffee machine broke down as well. Look elsewhere
Great location. Good time for breakfast quick and easy. Good size pool and hot tub. “Hot tub will have a siren when you turn on the bubbles” wait for hotel staff to advise you to use it. Good location for a McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s also a good location for the grand union grocery store just a few minutes away from the hotel “walking distance”.
Rooms were clean. Elevator was small. Two level hotel. The pool was clean and they had a hot tub. They also have a gym. The breakfast had a good selection and a very spacious eating area. I did feel like staff could have been nicer. They do not have baby cribs or play pens which we needed. I could not sleep well thinking my baby could fall off the bed. They do not offer body wash so please make sure to take. We had to ask for hand soap which they gave us a small bar of soap. They did have a miniature one inch bottle of shampoo and conditioner-which with two girls was not enough. I did witness a staff member being a bit loud with another young girl. I did not feel comfortable.
